Sandy Vaughn
The Convergence of Two Callings
My journey spans 25 years working with youth and families in treatment programs, alongside 47 years of hands-on experience with horses. Through extensive training with local and national experts, I've dedicated myself to ensuring every program reflects effective, evidence-based practices.
When I became Equine Director for J-J Youth Services in 2012, I explored Equine Assisted activities more deeply but noticed a troubling disconnect between the work being done with people and the well-being of the horses. I struggled to find an approach that aligned with my values.
Everything shifted in 2017 when Katie Dixon introduced me to Anna Twinney. Through my ongoing work with ROTH, I found an approach that honors voice and choice for both youth and horses—a philosophy that has transformed my personal and professional path ever since.
